Teaching a Brush Lettering Workshop at the 2023 Dropbox Design Summit

In February 2023, I had the privilege of teaching an Intro to Brush Lettering workshop for over 130 participants at the Dropbox Design Summit, held at the stunning The Line Hotel in Austin, TX. This event was part of Dropbox’s initiative to foster better connections among their remote design teams—teams who had not had the chance to meet in person for over two years. The summit was an incredible two-day experience focused on creating a space where both new and seasoned designers could connect, learn, and build lasting relationships.

The Dropbox Design Summit was designed to enhance communication and collaboration among various creative teams within Dropbox, such as branding, illustration, UX, and product design. The branding for the summit was thoughtfully curated to reflect the diversity of these teams, incorporating Dropbox’s unique typography, color palette, and illustrative elements. The entire event was structured to facilitate meaningful conversations and build stronger connections across the teams. As a part of this, my Brush Lettering Workshop was one of the creative breakout sessions that allowed participants to unwind and tap into their artistic sides.

Being able to interact with over 130 creatives was an amazing experience! Teaching brush lettering on such a large scale was a fun challenge, and being on the big stage made it feel even more exciting. I believe in making my workshops as hands-on and interactive as possible, so I made sure to walk around the room, engaging with each person, answering their questions, and providing personalized feedback.

The participants, ranging from beginners to experienced artists, were incredibly engaged and eager to learn. Many of them were stepping outside their usual digital design practices and trying something more tactile, which made the session even more special. By the end of the workshop, it was clear that everyone had not only learned some new skills but also had a fantastic time doing it.

The energy and enthusiasm in the room were infectious, and it was truly an honor to be part of such an amazing event. This was my largest class to date, and I am so grateful for the opportunity to share my passion for brush lettering with such a talented group of creatives.

If you're organizing a summit or a company event and are looking for unique ways to engage your team, a brush lettering workshop is the perfect creative outlet. It’s not only fun and educational, but it also provides a moment of mindfulness and creativity, perfect for breaking up the day and fostering team bonding. Feel free to reach out to discuss how we can make this a reality for your next event!
